The feds say they’re receiving hundreds, if not thousands, of complaints about the popular superfood.

Among the complaints, hard to find billing information.

Many users have reported being billed a lot of money, once their trial period is complete. And each trial period is different. Some shady companies rely on this tactic, making it very hard to find the fine print or making it hard to cancel.

The best bet to combat this kind of scam is to do your research, find the fine print — and if you can’t, look for acai berries elsewhere. Each company is very different, so there are great, wonderful companies out there, you just have to take a moment to look.

The sale of acai berry supplements has also been likened to a pyramid scheme.

One of the major acai berry companies was investigated by federal authorities. But the worst part is that scammers will say just about anything to make you buy their product. Again, you should do your research and make sure the facts are in line.

Scammers will even misspell their product names, preying on us bad spellers to make us click on their products. Watch for common misspellings like: Akai berry, acia roots, acia berries, acai roots or acai rots.

Sure, you can still get free acai berries, but take your time, make sure to read the fine print and you can find yourself the latest superfood without getting super-scammed.
